Privacy Policy
Overview
RootVersion LLC (“RootVersion,” “we,” “us”) built Piggy Bank (the “App”) as a simple, private way for families to track kids’ chores, rewards, and balances. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App does and does not handle when you use it on your mobile device.
In short: Piggy Bank is a local-first app. All family data you enter stays on your device. We do not operate servers that collect, store, or analyze your data. The only time information ever leaves your device is if you choose to back up or restore through your own Google Drive account, or make an in-app purchase through Apple or Google.
Information We Handle
1. Data you enter in the App
The information you create inside Piggy Bank — including kid profiles (names, emoji avatars), chores/quick deposits, transaction history, balances, currency preference, and in-app settings — is stored only in a local SQLite database on your device. It is not transmitted to RootVersion, and we have no ability to view, collect, or access it.
2. Google Drive backups (optional)
If you choose to enable Google Drive backup, the App uses Google Sign-In to authenticate you and stores a single encrypted backup file of your local database in the app-specific hidden folder on your personal Google Drive (the appDataFolder scope). This folder:
- is owned by you and lives entirely within your Google account;
- is accessible only to the Piggy Bank app — not to other apps, not to RootVersion, and not visible in your normal Google Drive file list;
- contains only the backup file; no metadata, analytics, or usage information.
You can back up, restore, sign out, or disable auto-backup at any time from inside the App. Signing out or deleting the backup file removes Piggy Bank’s access to Drive.
3. In-app purchases
Piggy Bank offers an optional premium upgrade (“Plus”). Payments are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We never receive or store your payment details, card information, or store account identifiers. Apple and Google share only the anonymous purchase receipt needed to unlock your purchase.
4. What we do not collect
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting is sent to RootVersion.
- No advertising identifiers are read or transmitted.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data is accessed.
- No personally identifiable information (email, phone, address) is collected by RootVersion.
Children’s Privacy
Piggy Bank is designed to be used by parents and guardians to track rewards for their children. The App does not knowingly collect, store, or transmit any personal information from children. Any kid profile names or avatars you create are stored only on your own device (and, if you enable it, inside your own private Google Drive backup folder). We do not maintain online accounts for children and do not offer any social or communication features.
We comply with the spirit of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar frameworks worldwide by not collecting child data at all.
Third-Party Services
The following third parties are used only when you affirmatively engage with the corresponding feature. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies:
- Google Sign-In / Google Drive — used only if you enable Drive backup. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play Billing — used only if you make an in-app purchase. See Apple’s and Google’s respective policies.
Data Retention & Deletion
Because your data is stored on your own device, you are fully in control of it:
- Delete a kid, task, or transaction from inside the App to remove it locally.
- Uninstall the App to remove all local data from your device.
- Sign out of Google Drive and delete the backup file (from within the App, or by revoking access from your Google Account settings) to remove any backup copies.
Security
Data on your device is protected by your device’s operating system and lock-screen protections. Google Drive backups are transmitted over HTTPS and stored inside Google’s secure infrastructure in a folder only this app can access. No system is 100% secure, but because we do not operate servers or collect your data, the attack surface for your family information stays limited to your own device and your own Google account.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect your personal information, there is generally nothing for RootVersion to look up, export, correct, or delete on your behalf. If you believe we nonetheless hold information about you, or if you have questions about how the App handles data, contact us using the details below and we will respond promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in applicable law. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced inside the App where appropriate.
